VALENCIA
Valencia once languished in the shadow
of flashy Madrid and trendy Barcelona but its days as a wallflower
are long over. The word is out: Valencia, with its vibrant
medieval core, fantastic nightlife, shopping and restaurants,
sandy beaches, and some of the most spectacular new architecture
in Europe, is the hottest new destination on the Mediterranean.
|
|
| The arrival of the new Cuitat de les Arts i
les Ciencies put Valencia firmly on the tourist map and is
the grandest in a string of major new developments from high-tech
museums to glittering opera houses. |
|
| But Valencia has only just begun: the decision
to host the 2007 Americas cup will mean a new marina
and a host of slick new amenities which will cement its position
as one of the most forward-looking cities in Spain. But its
traditional charms - the palm-lined boulevards, baroque belltowers,
Modernista markets and golden beaches - still assert their
pull. Its a city in which old and new, shabby and sleek,
co-exist peacefully, where old-fashioned tapas bars rub shoulders
with the latest designer restaurants, and flamboyant palaces
overlook glass new museums. |
 |
Valencia's mild climate is another reason to
come for a stay. It's warm atmosphere can always be felt in
this city. Inviting and hospitable. Ready to be enjoyed.
